Pronounced Tuh-co-knee, it's our goal with this class to define a 1/32 scale car that is not only fun to race but reasonably easy to build. And we also have an eye on reusability. That is, it would be nice to build a car that in it's base form approached a variety of classes. And as luck has it, we have such a system in mind. It's very easy to build and as you will see, quite flexible.
Here now, the car of next year in prototype form:

Now let's get down to some details:
CHASSIS:
The most important part of this spec is the chassis. For ease of use, reliability, and reuse we have chosen the Slot.it HRS inline version (SICH01). Retailing at $20, it's just what we need and comes complete with guide blade, rear axle bushings, bar magnet and body mounting clips.
It also features an adjustable wheel base and a removable motor pod. This is a big deal. With a single chassis base and a few motor pods (about $8 each), you can quickly change between a variety of classes as well as styles (inline, sidewinder, anglewinder, boxer).
To complete your TCONY car you will need to add the following:
Axles
Crown gear - your choice
FRONT WHEELS and TIRES:
Wheels: BWA32001
Tires: Ninco Classic Tires
REAR WHEELS and TIRES:
Wheels: BWA32003
Tires: Glenn will supply rear tires
Wheels can not stick out beyond the body.
MOTOR:
V12/3-21 motor, 9.6W @ 12V 21500 rpm inline can drive or equivalent
BODY:
Late Model NASCAR
Since 1/32 scale model car bodies aren't exactly lining the shelves of my local hobby stores, the prototype car is using an inexpensive slot car body (Scalex Body example #1). As you can see in the photos, the original body posts have been removed and the slot.it body mount clips have been attached. To be class-legal it will need a driver/interior and either front and rear windows or screens if you prefer the dirt track look.
If you don't have a spare 1/32 body handy, let me know which of the two examples shown here you would prefer and we'll send an order when we've got an idea of how many.
And there you have it - an easy-to-build 1/32 scale spec racer for the 2008 NASTE season.
Thanks for stopping by and please send me your thoughts and comments.
We'll continue to add photos as the cars take shape - time for some paint!
